Mid Wales racing driver, Ben Power, regained his track record at Snetterton in Norfolk, as he continued his campaign in the National Legends Car Championship.
Power, aged 24, from Guilsfield, near Welshpool, is aiming to improve on his third-place in the final championship standings last season.
His lap record from last year was broken, but he managed to break it back in the last race of the two-day meeting.
In race 1, he struggled for grip on new tyres and finished sixth; but he led much of race 2, and was in front as the pack entered the last lap, but following cars used his slipstream to get past and he finished a disappointing fifth.
He was leading the final race, but lost second gear and fell back to finish sixth.
The team fitted a new engine for the second day of races, but again he struggled for pace from the back of the field in the opening race, and lost more time avoiding an early incident, ending up a disappointing seventh.
He was involved in a race-long dog fight for the lead in the second heat, but again lost out and ended up fourth.
In the final, he dropped to the very back early on in a cloud of oil smoke, but recovered well to finish third, regaining his lap record in the process.
"Overall, it was a fairly disappointing weekend," said Power. "Regaining the lap record was a great achievement, but we need more consistently high finishes in the final rounds."
There are four rounds remaining over two further weekend meetings:
4-5 October - Rounds 13 and 14, Pembrey;
1-2 November - Rounds 15 and 16, Brands Hatch.
Legends racing originated on the US oval tracks, and the cars have an American look, being 5/8-scale replicas of classic US models. Guttercrest Racing runs a Ford Coupe 1934 replica, with a 1250cc Yamaha motorcycle engine.
With identical cars and the fastest drivers having to start at the back of the grid, there is said to be more overtaking in a single Legends race than in a whole season of Formula 1.
Guttercrest Racing is backed by the family-owned aluminium guttering company Guttercrest, based in Oswestry. The team has further support from award-winning Cardiff-based PR consultancy Weltch Media, and Ripla Designs.
Ben Power, aged 24, made his debut in the Legends Car series in 2009 - finishing 8th overall and 2nd in the rookie table, having switched to the circuits after winning the Junior Rallycross crown in 2006 and Supermodifed Rallycross titles in 2007 and 2008. In 2010, he finished 10th overall, in 2011 he was 6th , in 2012, 4th, and in 2013 3rd.
