The 2026 Cook Out Summer Shootout kicked off on Monday night as eight divisions suited up and got ready to go for a summer night filled with racing. The anticipation finally ended for the 180 entries as they were able to burn rubber and put on a show for the fans. As dark clouds loomed over qualifying, the rain eventually landed right before the Chargers A feature, but quickly passed over as cars were eventually back out on the track to finish off the night.

The Bandit Division got the show going early for the crowd at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with the winner being determined on the final corner of the race. The 1H of Lucas Harrison led the pack to the green flag, but the green was more than temporary as the first yellow of the race occurred after a spin in Turn 1. As Harrison chose the outside for the restart, the number 40 Cook Out Machine of Roo Reaves led the pack to green. The Top 3 of Reaves, Maverick Bradshaw and Harrison ended up breaking away from the main pack, but trouble occurred for the 1H of Harrison on Lap 6 when he lost control of his car in turn one.

The cautions continued as there were multi-car incidents on both Lap 7 and 8, but that did not slow down Roo Reaves as he held his pace at the front of the field. But with only a few laps left, Bradshaw found his way around Reaves in a crucial pass as the next flag ended the race. It looked as if Reaves had a chance to take back the lead coming out of turn four, but a caution flag ruined his chances, with Bradshaw’s margin of victory being less than two-hundredths of a second.

Just like the Bandit’s race, the Pro Division brought nail-biting action to the speedway, thanks to Neal Dulin’s incredible last-lap effort. The number 17 of Ben Morabito started on pole and looked to be the fastest car on the track without a doubt. Morabito found his groove as he was hanging onto his line right in the middle of the track, and that line proved to work as his lead grew to over two seconds, not even 10 laps in.

That margin quickly evaporated after a red flag was waived on track, bunching the field back up together for one final restart with less than five laps left. As Morabito led the pack back to green with three to go, he could not find the pace he needed to pull away, but Dulin did. On the final lap, Neal Dulin made a move to the inside of turn two. Forcing him and Morabito to go side-by-side down the back-stretch and through turn three. But exiting Turn 4 is where Dulin got it done, as he was able to get the upper hand out of the fourth turn and take the victory by less than a thirtieth of a second in a photo finish.

While those action-packed nail-biters happened later in the night, the Beginner Division kicked off the evening of racing, where the 5L of Wyatt Linker earned pole position. Linker would get out to a quick lead, with Gio Anderlini chasing him down. A few laps later on Lap 8, Anderlini pushed a little too hard and got loose coming off of Turn 4 to bring out the first caution of the night. Linker stayed ahead of the pack for the majority of the race, but Ryan Hoffacker had his eye on the prize, working his way up to the front before the final caution of the race. Hoffacker was able to retain his lead while growing it out to at least six car-lengths and take the win in night one of the Cook Out Summer Shootout.

The first real dominant performance of the night came in the Outlaw Division, where Carson Sherman took the pole and never looked back. Coming into this race, Sherman had 25 starts on the year, with 21 of those resulting in a win. Along with the impressive winning percentage, Sherman extended his winning streak to four-straight after winning the first three rounds of Thursday Thunder at EchoPark Speedway. By Lap 13, Sherman grew his lead to over a second on the trailing car. That margin only grew as the laps went on, as Sherman finished with a gap of over two and a half seconds to the second-place car.

The first Legend Car race of the night came when the Chargers Division hit the quarter-mile track, but rainfall delayed the race before they ran five full laps. The pole sitter, Nicholas Newsome, was able to regain control of the field once the green flag waved following the delay, but it became a whole new race following the weather delay. On a wet track, Newsome was able to hold onto the lead under immense pressure from Craig Biryla. Despite the effort from Biryla, Newsome was able to win from the pole and shrug off the jitters from the delay.

The Young Lions Division was yet another caution-filled race on night one, but saw great battles from the fastest in qualifying, Landon Thrasher, and two-time 2026 Thursday Thunder winner Turner Brown. As Thrasher led the field, it seemed as if the drivers found the best line with a damp track, the high line. While Thrasher stretched his lead out to over a second, two familiar faces in Brown and Colt Johnson were battling for second place. Contact between the two occurred on Lap 9, sending Johnson to the back of the field with the race staying green. The battle between Brown and Johnson let Thrasher extend his lead to four seconds, but that lead extinguished when a caution was called with three laps to go. While Thrasher retained first, Case James jumped up to second and looked for his first lead of the night on the restart, and that is exactly what he did. Despite another yellow with two laps to go, James held his own up front and took round one of the Young Lions Division.

The VP Fuels Semi-Pro Division showed us consistent racing from Colton Hale, but his patience is what helped him secure the win. Pole Sitter Sterling Wrisley had a nightmare start to the race, as he got loose crossing the start-finish line and dropped back to ninth place. Hale sat in the top five for most of the day, but around Lap 16, he was able to go side-by-side with then-leader Cameron White before getting passed him exiting Turn 4. By Lap 22, Hale’s lead grew to well over a second, and he maintained that as he pulled off the track victorious in Summer Shootout Round 1.

The Dilling H-Vac Masters Division rounded out the night, where the 93 of Kevin Rollins started on pole. Rollins was able to establish a comfortable lead a few laps in, with the rest of the field chasing single file behind him. Jesse Bunnell showed Rollins some serious pressure from behind, but it was the 25 of Jeff Bolen who got the upper hand on Rollins and took the lead. Bolen was able to cruise out front, eventually growing his lead to over half a second before holding onto first and winning the final race of the evening.
