Monday night marked Round 5, the halfway mark of the 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout, and it was nothing short of spectacular at America’s Home for Racing. A stellar night from Brexton Busch and his fellow up-and-coming generation of drivers showcased the night, showing that the future of racing is in good, and speedy hands.
Brexton Busch had to fight tooth and nail to finish first in Round 5 of the Bandits Feature. It was a tight race for our top five finishers, Busch, Evan Johnson, Maverick Bradshaw, Taegan Knowland, and James Behnke, as they weaved and pushed to solidify their places. Busch fell to as low as sixth before making a push to the front, with a consistent fight between Bradshaw and Johnson.
Lap 19 was the push to the finish for our podium, where Busch once again took control of the lead as Bradshaw managed to pull ahead of Johnson to take second. Despite a difficult and competitive field, Busch was able to persevere ahead of the rest of the pack and complete his fourth win through five rounds of the Cook Out Summer Shootout.
A fast forward a few races in the show, and there is only one word to describe Busch’s first Legend car win: domination. Throughout every lap of the Round 5 Chargers A Feature, Busch continued to push and extend his lead from the rest of the field, as Max Calles and Thomas Harris attempted to close in. A restart on lap 18 gives Calles some hope to reach Busch, but the number 18 Legend Car was able to space himself out and visited Victory Lane for the second time on Monday night. A rare occurrence for a driver to win both a Bandolero and Legend Car feature on the same night at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Round 5 of the Cook Out Summer Shootout belonged to Busch in both of his divisions, showing fans and fellow drivers that he has the skill, dedication, and ability to further become a threat for the remainder of this season and for years to come.
Two young prodigies also showcased their talents during last night’s Dilling Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, and Electrical Pros Division. London McKenzie, who started from the second starting position, fell down to seventh after a faulty start on the green flag. Despite the restart, Keelan Harvick had a strong lead and truly began to separate around Lap 7. That is when McKenzie shifted gears and began to make advances toward the front of the field.
By Lap 10, McKenzie had reclaimed his original position in second, Harvick still far ahead. Lap by lap, the 95 car closed in on the 62, until a caution flag was waved on Lap 21, stripping Harvick of what was left of his lead and leveling out the field. From there, the battle between Harvick and McKenzie kept fans on edge of their seats and McKenzie was able to pull off a successful bump and run on turn two and complete the Round 5 race in the lead, winning his second Pro Feature this summer.
Neal Dulin brought the energy in his first win of the season during the VP Racing Fuels Semi-Pros Feature. Dylan Faulkner took an early lead after the green flag, only for a caution flag to cause a restart, allowing for Hunter Jordan and Aiden McConnaughey to reach podium positions.
The intensity rose as the Lap 8 restart let Neal Dulin creep in and pass McConnaughey. Slowly but surely, Dulin passed Faulkner on Lap 15 and stayed in the lead the remainder of the feature. While Jordan closed in on Dulin, he managed to cross the finish line and won his first race of the season.
Round 5 of the Outlaws Feature was a redemption race for Landon Thrasher as he returned to victory lane for the fourth time in the Cook Out Summer Shootout this year. Thrasher may have had his work cut out for him, starting in sixth with a competitive field in front of him, but pushed into podium position early on.
Lap 6 put Thrasher in first after a two-lane restart, but lost his place to Carson Sherman in Lap 12 after a caution flag restart. However, Thrasher did not see losing as an option this round and regained his first-place position in Lap 15. As the checkered flag waved, it was once again Landon Thrasher in the number 55 Bandolero to finish first, followed by Sherman and Chase Spaulding.
The Young Lions Feature was nothing short of exciting Monday night. Through the first ten laps, Brody Rhodes held back Colton Hale, Ben Morabito, and Case James. However, Morabito pushed hard to pull ahead of Rhodes on Lap 11. From that point on, Morabito never looked back and was far ahead of the rest of the field. Behind him, James and Rhodes close out the podium with strong finishes from both drivers.
The American Rebel Ale Masters Division closed out the night at the Cook Out Summer Shootout with a strong ending. Josh Mullins started off with a lead from the beginning and successfully held off runs from Jeff Bolen and Lee Jordan, as well as Kyle Beattie and previous winner Robby Faggart. Even though flags of multiple different colors waved through the course of the race, Mullins never let up and remained consistent until the finish line.
In the non-transferring Chargers B Feature, Cal Anderson led each lap and pulled out the win, despite efforts from Jackson Fooks and Braden Scoot. Despite a caution flag pulled on Lap 19 that led to a one lap shootout for the win, Anderson was able to hold off Fooks for the win and trip to victory lane.
Josh Davenport gets his second win of the season in a dominant Beginner Bando A Feature Round 5 race. Davenport was able to push through the competition, followed by an impressive effort by Wyatt Linker and Camden Powers.
Starting Round 5, Ava Boyd led through 14 laps, but Joshua Penn Jr. pulled a last-minute pass on the inside to push forward and win the Beginner Bando B Feature.
After five rounds, Brexton Busch holds a 23-point lead over James Behnke and a 29-point lead over Maverick Bradshaw. Landon Thrasher holds a 26-point advantage over Carson Sherman with Rylan Speight trailing by 34.
Ben Morabito’s Round 5 victory has propelled him into the Young Lions points lead, leading Spencer Bradshaw by six points and Colton Hale by 14. In the Master’s Division, Robby Faggart holds a 22-point spread over Brandin Wrisley, 27 points over Lee Jordan and a 29 points over Kyle Beattie.
Isaac Kitzmiller’s lead over second-place Dylan Faulker is eight points, while Sam Butler trails by 15 and Chase Burgeson 16 points. The tightest championship battle of them all is the Pro Division, where the top five are separate by only eight points. Jake Bollman leads by one point over Keelan Harvick, three over Danny Chisholm, four over London McKenzie, and eight over Tyler Reif.
The 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout continues with Round 6 on Tuesday, July 1 and will include fireworks and a driver-autograph session at the conclusion of the night’s feature races. Replays of the first five rounds can be streamed on FloRacing.com and Round 6 coverage will be on Flo Racing, as well as the NASCAR Channel on Tubi and Amazon Prime. Grandstands open at 5pm, with tickets available for purchase on CharlotteMotorSpeedway.com.
