It was a night of first wins and close calls tonight at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the remainder of Round 8 and Round 9 of the Cook Out Summer Shootout. From a photo finish to a Bandolero double-header, last night was nothing short of exciting.

The Young Lions brought the heat and excitement as pushing and shoving started early in the front of the field. Ben Morabito got ahead of Colton Hale in Lap 3 and it seemed as though no one could touch him. As Morabito pushed the lead, Colt Johnson pushed his way through the field with Brody Rhodes close behind. Lap 24 changed the entire narrative of the Round 9 feature when a caution flag was flown.

The crowd was breathless as the single lap shootout brought intensity to Charlotte Motor Speedway. With Johnson on the tail of Morabito on the inside of turn 3, Rhodes took the outside lane and managed to push ahead of Johnson and put himself up against the wall, side-by-side with Morabito. As the checkered flag waved, Rhodes gave it his all and passed Morabito for a photo finish as he crossed the finish line one-one-thousandth of a second ahead of Morabito and secured his first win at the Cook Out Summer Shootout. The margin of victory was 0.001 seconds, and is the closest if not the closest finish in the history of the Cook Out Summer Shootout.

The Dilling Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, and Electrical Pro Feature was an intense bump and run battle to the end in Round 9. Lap 5 was filled with heavy contact throughout the entire field, which gave Keelan Harvick the lead positioning with Danny Chisholm and Shane Van Gisbergen closely behind. A caution restart on Lap 6 helped London McKenzie gain momentum, as he executed a bump and run to get into third behind SVG. Harvick’s first place positioning was not contested after for the remainder of the race.

While Harvick was on the hunt for his first Pro Division race, the fight for second was a battle until the end. McKenzie showed pure skill and speed as he separated himself from the rest of the pack to inch closer to the NASCAR Cup driver. Just as it seemed McKenzie would be successful in his efforts, van Gisbergen pushed ahead enough to solidify a second-place position behind his teammate. Harvick crossed the finish line with plenty of space between the rest of the field, marking a significant first victory in the Pro Division at the Cookout Summer Shootout.

The American Rebel Ale Feature was nothing short of eventful. A Lap 4 restart gave Kyle Busch an opportunity to make his way from the back of the field to fourth, while Jesse Bunnell closed in on Jeff Bolen and Kyle Beattie in the front of the field. It was not long after Beattie secured first before Busch was on his bumper. By Lap 20, Busch had secured his lead ahead of the rest of the pack and gained his sixth win this summer on Charlotte Motor Speedway’s quarter-mile.

Paityn Feyen started strong and never let off the gas as she won her first Legend Car race in the Chargers Feature of Round 9. Feyen started off the race from the pole after capturing the Booth34DieCast Fastest Qualifier Award, and relinquish the lead, despite multiple caution restarts and great efforts to take the lead from Parker Ives and Brexton Busch. The victory was Feyen’s first in a Legend Car.

The VP Racing Fuels Semi-Pro Feature had another new driver cross the finish line as Hunter Jordan got his first win at the Cook Out Summer Shootout. Despite a couple of late caution flags and restarts, Jordan was able to hold off a competitive field and dominate the race from start to finish.

Landon Thrasher swept last night in the Bandits Rounds 8 and 9 Features. In an action-packed Round 8 feature, Thrasher took home a tight finish win at the Cook Out Summer Shootout, while Carson Sherman and Chase Spaulding finished closely behind.

Round 9 was no battle for Thrasher though, as he held onto the lead throughout the entire race and never let off the gas. Despite solid efforts from the rest of the field, Landon Thrasher remained victorious last night through both Bandits features at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Brexton Busch raced with focus and determination in the Bandits Feature of Round 9. The number 18 Bandolero took the lead in Lap 3 before a number of caution flags created a stop-and-go pace to the feature. With the time limit reached, the single lap restart had Busch and James Behnke side-by-side on turn 3 for a fight to the finish. Busch managed to inch ahead of Behnke as he completed his sixth victory in the Cook Out Summer Shootout.

The night started off with the make-up races from the Round 8 Bandolero divisions. The Beginner Bandolero B Feature was a tight race for the lead, which resulted in Mikey Speeney taking home the win with Max Rogers coming in second. Brody Zacharias shined in the Round 8 A Feature of the Beginner Bandorelos, getting another win for the season at Charlotte Motor Speedway. A hectic Round 8 Bandits feature led to the first win of the season for Gerald White III. Both Brexton Busch and Roo Reaves attempted to close in on the lead, but the time limit caused the race to finish before either could get ahead of White.

The Beginner Bandos raced for the second time in their double-header for Round 9. In the B Feature, Max Rogers took an early lead ahead of the field, but Jordyn Whitford managed to get ahead of Rogers on Lap 4 and never let off the gas. Whitford won her second Beginner Bandolero victory in the B Feature as she led throughout the majority of a difficult field of competition. The Beginner Bandolero A Feature was energetic throughout the entire race, concluding in a late race restart and a fight to the finish line, as Camden Powers finished ahead of Carter Koch. After the tech inspection, Carter Koch was given the victory for Round 9.

With only one round of features remaining in the 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout, Brexton Busch holds a commanding 55-point advantage on the field. With his two victories on Tuesday night, Landon Thrasher has extended his lead to 16 points over Carson Sherman in the Outlaws Division. Issues for the competition means Sam Butler has a 36-point gap to second place Dylan Faulkner in the VP Racing Fuels Semi-Pro Division.

The Young Lions Division will come down to the wire next Tuesday, as Ben Morabito only has five points on second-place Spencer Bradshaw. But close behind is Colton Hale, ready to strike as he trails by 22 points. But the closest championship is the Dilling Pro Division where after a chaotic Round 9, Jake Bollman and Tyler Reif are tied for the lead. But Keelan Harvick is only four points back, with Danny Chisholm trailing by seven points.

The tenth and final round begins Tuesday, July 29 at 5pm at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Grandstands will open at 5pm and tickets can be purchased at CharlotteMotorSpeedway.com. Replays of all nine rounds can be viewed on FloRacing.com. Coverage of Round 10 begins at 5pm only on FloRacing.
