Rain Halts Round 1 of Cook Out Summer Shootout After Four Divisions Reached the Checkered Flag

Monday opened the 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but unfortunately, mother nature was the ultimate winner. Four of the eight divisions completed their Round 1 feature before the wait for rain had gone on long enough. The Beginner Bandoleros, Bandits, Outlaws, and Chargers all completed their features before a weather delay stopped the Young Lions feature mid-race.

The evening opened with the Beginner Bandolero Division, which ran a B Feature followed by an A Feature. Michael Scronce took the lead early in the B Feature and kept Ellie Hodge at bay to win take home the first checkered flag of the summer. In the A Feature, Brody Zacharias led early but spun from the lead, gifting the lead to Josh Davenport. A series of cautions followed with Camden Powers giving chase after every restart, but Davenport never wavered. The checkered flag was displayed when Powers and Zacharias, who had driven back to the front, collided and spun to bring out the race-ending caution.

Chaos erupted in turns one and two on the opening lap of the Bandits Division feature, resulting in a complete reset. Gerald White III started on the pole following the invert and led the first lap, but it wasn’t to last. Brexton Busch cruised his way through a three-wide battle before going the long way around White to claim control. Despite having two cautions, the competition couldn’t find more speed than Busch. The summer’s opening Bandits Feature ended after 17 laps of 20 were completed when a single car spun after the time flag had been displayed.

James Monolo snatched the lead from Corbin Cannon by using the outside line on Lap 2 of the Outlaws Feature, holding onto the lead for several laps while the field dueled behind him. Three-wide and even four-wide passing took place, including strong battles by Landon Thrasher. A caution on Lap 9 helped Thrasher close the gap to Monolo and during the restart, Monolo slid high as Thrasher jetted away exiting Turn 2. The field completed Lap 9 before a single car spin resulted in another result, but this time it was a single file restart.

Several laps passed with Thrasher growing over a one-second lead. A final caution resulted in the time flag being displayed. The race ran to its full lap count of 20. Thrasher claimed victory before hopping out to go to climb aboard his Legend Car ahead of the Young Lions race.

Before the Young Lions Feature, the Chargers took to the track. Several attempts were needed before the night’s first Legend Car feature got underway, with Cash LeCroy leading the early laps after Fast Qualifier, Cole Gudmestad, suffered issues before the start. On Lap 10, LeCroy slowed and picked back up speed, but not before falling back to fifth. Knox Bryant took over the lead and led only three laps before the caution lights were switched on just moments after the time flag was given to the field, making Bryant a winner at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

A slight delay ahead of the Young Lions Division Feature due to rain also meant that teams had the option to switch to rain tires. The race started with a wet track and rain still lightly falling. Ben Morabito looked rocketed away from second place as many drivers were experiencing racing in the rain for the first time. Morabito was on track to lap the entire field before lightning halted the race with eight laps completed.

The race would not resume and the conclusion of the Young Lions Round 1 Feature, along with the Semi-Pro, Pro, and Masters Divisions are set to complete their races on Tuesday, June 10^th beginning at 4pm ET. At the conclusion of the four remaining Round 1 features, Round 2 qualifying will immediately begin, followed by Round 2 feature racing. Gates at Charlotte Motor Speedway open at 4pm with coverage of all of Tuesday’s racing action streamed on FloRacing.
