After an action-packed morning, America’s Home for Racing came together for Lug Nut’s birthday during round 8 of the Cook Out Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway. While the night was wrapped in celebration, the drivers delivered physical must-see racing, as we draw closer to Championship Night on July 28th.
While Carson Sherman has had the most consistent Shootout in the Outlaws Division so far, anyone can win on any given day. While Sherman had the lead early, Lucas McFall had the speed to contend for the win. A caution on Lap 8 saw Carson Cauble choose the outside line in the front row of the restart. Sherman, McFall, and Cauble would all battle in the front three as the race continued. Sherman time in and time out would find the lead, but some McFall and Cauble would be following close behind him.
On Lap 15 the front three would run into lap traffic as Sherman is impacted falling into third place. While McFall and Cauble got in front of the national points leader, he quickly drove himself back into contention. As the pack took the white flag, Sherman made a move to regain the lead from McFall, and as McFall looked to get back in the lead, the two collide bringing out a caution in the final lap. With the two race contenders now at the back, Cauble would battle against Reid Halpin in a one lap shootout for the win. As the green and white flags waived, Cauble had a burst of speed to get out in front. His pace was unable to be matched, and he took home his second win of the Summer Shootout.
Chaos has been the name of the game in the Young Lions Division as this race was no different. Turner Brown had the lead to start the race with the invert, but with the competitive nature of Young Lions, it was anyone’s race. The middle of the race had a slurry of cautions giving drivers like Case James, Jaxon Burnett, and Landon Thrasher opportunities to steal the lead from Brown. James spent the restarts trying to make the outside line work, but his last attempt saw him falling towards the back of the pack after contact.
Thrasher spent the majority of the race chasing close behind Brown but found pace late in the race to get an opportunity to win it. As Brown and Thrasher went side by side on lap 23, Brown was still fighting to maintain his lead. The battle culminated on the final lap, as Thrasher conducted a bump and run in Turn 4 and crossed the finish line just in front of Brown to secure his fourth win of the Summer Shootout.
A caution filled Bandits race saw an early battle between Landon Solomito, Camden Powers, Lucas Harrison, and Maverick Bradshaw. While Powers had the lead at the start, Bradshaw’s showed the pace he has had all Shootout, getting the lead on Lap 4. The race was then riddled with cautions with the Pink Flag being showed on Lap 6. While Powers had pace on the final restart, the final caution flag was shown, and Bradshaw won his third race in a row.
Colton Hale qualified on pole for the VP Racing Fuels Semi-Pro Feature, but after the invert, Dylan Faulkner started the race in the front. Faulkner led a majority of the race, while Hale followed just behind him waiting for his time. The race was filled with cautions, while the two battled through restarts for the lead. Hale took the lead on Lap 19 and after a pink time flag caution, was declared the winner.
Long-Run speed was the key in the one caution Pro Feature. Nick Woodall controlled the race early, leading 11 laps until Spencer Bradshaw took the lead on a bump and run on Lap 12 right before the races only caution. Contact between the two front runners on the restart, opened the door for Ben Morabito to take the lead on Lap 13. The race then remained clean, as Morabito was too fast to be caught.
The Dilling HVAC Masters was won in dominant fashion by Kevin Rollins. Rollins led the race from the start after the invert and never looked back. Scott Moseley kept Rollins honest, as he spent a good portion of the race right on his tail. The race ended with an exciting two-lap shootout, with Rollins fighting off the pack for the race win.
The Chargers A Feature also had an early red flag delaying the action. Chase Bohanon started the race in the lead, but had some trouble early with Craig Biryla right behind him. Bohanon managed to keep his lead through multiple lengthy cautions, until the pink time flag was shown on Lap 8. The remainder of the race went clean after showing the pink flag. Although Nicholas Newsome had an opportunity on the last lap, Bohanon was able to hold on to the lead and win the race.
A time shortened race saw multiple cautions and a red flag. While Everett Larson had the lead early, after the red flag delay, Karter Beattie gained the lead on Lap 7. The pink flag was shown on a Lap 11 restart. On the ensuing restart, the final caution flag was waived with Beattie in the lead giving him the race win.
In the A Feature for the Beginner Bandoleros, Rob Brown led the pack to start off the race. While Stetson Stroup gave him some trouble early, Brown was able to maneuver through the pack, and cautions to secure the win.
The Beginners B Feature was won in dominant fashion by Carson McKee. While his lead was as big as 6.7 seconds, late cautions kept the pack closer, as McKee won with a margin of 2.4 seconds.
ROUND 7 MAKE UP FEATURES
Points leader Jeff Bolen led the Dilling HVAC Masters field heading into turn one, but Robby Faggart did not want to wait for the lead as he made it three wide before taking the lead into Turn 4. Lee Jordan got the upper hand of Faggart’s move as he jumped up into second while the cars ahead battled. Faggart extended his lead to over a second around the halfway point, as Jordan and Bolen tried to make up ground. Adam Welch found himself entered into the conversation, as he was right on the bumper of Jordan before moving him out of the way and taking third. With five to go, Faggart grew his lead out to over two seconds, with nothing but clean air ahead of him. Faggart used the clean air to his advantage, and cruised to a dominant victory in the final race of Round 7.
Spencer Bradshaw jumped out to a quick lead in the Pro Division, with Ben Morabito chasing. The top two extended away from the field by about a half of a second only two laps in. A caution six laps in bunched the field back up, but that was a blessing in disguise for Morabito as he was able to sneak into the inside and take the lead on Lap 7. Bradshaw dropped down to third, with Jensen Jorgensen being the one chasing Morabito down. Jorgensen found the pace he needed on Lap 16, as he set up the perfect move on the inside of Turn 4 to take the lead. While Morabito stayed on his tail, Jorgensen had all the pace in the world and could not be caught as he took the Round 7 win.
The Young Lions feature was covered in yellow flags, but Case James prevailed despite the constant stoppage. James got out to an early and commanding lead with Colt Johnson tucking in behind him while the drivers in the inside line got the advantage. The top two found themselves car lengths ahead of the rest of the field, with Parker Ives and Brexton Busch chasing them down. The pink time flag was waived, signaling the next flag will end the race. Even with all of the cautions, James found himself leading the field to the restart, right before the next caution which officially ended the race and gave him the win.
Round 4 winner Preston Wrisley led the VP Racing Fuels Semi-Pro field to green, but a wreck before the first lap brought out an immediate red flag. Just like the Young Lions race, cautions filled the 25 lap race. Wrisley had the pace the entire race, leading most of it despite the cautions, but it was Dylan Faulkner who prevailed. Faulkner found the inside as the field crashed behind him, bringing out the pink time flag and ending the race, giving him the win by taking the lead just in the nick of time.
The continuation of Round 7 got started as the Chargers Division hit the quarter mile race track. Nick Newsome and Brady Price led the field to green, but Tryson Pinion and his blue number five machine rocketed up to second as the field tucked in single file. Pinion found the lead around Lap 12, but Ayden Young was on his tail. Young claimed the lead with a few laps to go, and led the field around for the final lap. Young was out front as they went down the backstretch one last time, but Pinion found the pace to get around him in Turn 4 and claim the checkered flag in the first race of an action packed day.
With only two rounds of racing remaining, Maverick Bradshaw has stretched his lead over Roo Reaves to 32 points, and 35 points over Landon Solomito in the Bandits Division. A total of 26 points separtes Outlaw drivers Carson Sherman and Carson Cauble, with Jackson Jones another 15 points behind. Landon Thrasher has 31-point advantage over Turner Brown, and 41 points over Case James.
The Dilling HVAC Masters is a little tigheter of a battle. Jeff Bolen has only eight points over Kevin Rollins, and Robby Faggart trails Rollins by only four points. Colton Hale has taken control of the VP Racing Fuels Semi-Pro Division from Preston Wrisley, with a 16-point gap between the two drivers. Cameron White trails by another six points, and Dylan Faulkner is behind 24 points. Ben Morabito was able to add space between him and second place, Neal Dulin, which is no 20 points, with Spencer Bradshaw trailing 26.
Replays of all eight rounds of the 2026 Cook Out Summer Shootout cn be streamed on FloRacing.com. Round 9 will be Tuesday, July 21 with spectator gates opening at 5pm, and the Flo Racing broadcast beginning at 6pm ET/ 3pm PT.
