Thursday was a full day of racing at Veterans Motorplex at the Rim to conclude the first half of the 2023 Nashville Spring Series presented by zMAX. The conclusion of the Young Lions Round 2 feature, plus the Semi-Pro, Masters, and Pro Round 2 features all tossed together with all of Round 3’s action. A total of 11 feature races were contested, producing 10 different winners on the day.

Results and the points standings after three rounds can be found at the bottom of the story.

The continuation of the Round 2 Young Lions race opened day two of competition, restarting on Lap 3. Jackson Denton jumped to the lead with Ayden Christensen in tow as Cooper Gaul and Aiden King battled for third, but soon King prevailed. A caution flew on Lap 5 for a single spin involving Anastasia Markovic. On the Lap 5 restart, Denton had Christensen on his outside as Gaul slotted into third. Denton pulled ahead bringing Gaul with him but he slipped up off turn 4. Gaul got to Christensen’s inside looking to take second but the caution flew for a Max Reaves spin. Five laps remained as Denton shot back into the lead but Christensen used the bumper to move on the start and Gaul slotted into second. Christensen bobbled in turn 1 opened the door for Gaul but he could complete the pass. Christensen won with Gaul in second and Denton third.

Following the continuation of the Round 2 Young Lions race was the Round 2 Semi-Pro feature. Dylan Faulkner wasted no time taking the lead and leaving Michael Crafton to battle for second with George Phillips. Crafton completed the pass leaving Phillips in third. The field singled out with Mason Lastra and Tanner Jones door-to-door for fourth as the rear half of the field continued to settle their positions. On Lap 19, Crafton finally got to Faulkner’s inside and completed the pass with six laps to go. Faulkner then fell to Phillips and was under fire from Martinez whom he made contact with and Lastra moved to challenge for third. Crafton was scooting away when the yellow flew for Faulkner who spun in turn four with two laps to go. He was unable to refire and retired from the race. The two-lap shootout started with Crafton firing off fast but Phillips hung tight on the outside. Crafton worked Phillips high as the they took the white flag and Crafton pulled away to win with Martinez in second and Lastra in third with Phillips finishing fourth after being shuffled three wide.

Josh Mullins kicked off the Round 2 Masters race by sliding in front of Kevin Rollins on lap one in turn one, but a series of hard hits for Giles Martin and Steve Gareau after sliding down the frontstretch brought the race to a stop. While rolling to restart, the front row of Mullins and Rollins came together causing a stack up. Daryl Mahar and Brandin Wrisley were the new front row. Mahar sped off well and Wrisley moved into second comfortably with Lonnie Hochstetler in third. Mullins passed five cars in the first two laps. Then a spin with Mullins and Ronnie Wehunt brought the caution out on Lap 5. Mahar would survive several restarts to win the Round 2 feature, with Wrisley finishing second and Kevin Foisy coming home in third.

Pole sitter Jacob Staten ran high in turn two opening the door for teammate Landen Lewis on the opening corner to take the lead, bringing Alex McCollum with him. Staten was now third with Tyler Reif on his bumper. A big moment occurred when two separate spins occurred. One was for Nick Woodall and Josh Dickens and a second for Donovan Strauss and Joel Smith, who retired from the race. The race restarted on Lap 4 with leader Lewis successfully slotting in front of second place. Reif, Staten and McCollum went three-wide, sending McCollum to fourth. As the top five was settled, Jadyn Daniels lost five positions between turn four and turn one. The race ran green the rest of the way, handing Lewis the victory. Staten finished second and McCollum regained third by the checkered flag.

Between the conclusion of the Round 2 features and the start of Round 3, B Mains were run for Young Lions and Semi-Pro. Dawson Noble walked away with the Young Lions B Main win, transferring to the A Main along with Beckham Malone, Kaeden Ballos, and Anastasia Markovic. The Semi-Pro B Main was won by Josh Inglis with Galen Clark, Connor Yonchuk, and Nate Morris all moving on to the A Main.

Round 3 got off to a rocky start with the Beginner Bandoleros as it took a few attempts to complete Lap 1, which resulted in a few cars retirement. When the race did get underway, Round 1 winner Bryson Nichols was not to be beat in this race. He successfully negotiated several restarts and defended his lead against Allee Johnson. Nichols won when the caution waved and time had expired. Roo Reaves came home second and Johnson inherited third after Gerald White III spun taking the white flag.

Colt Johnson may have had the quick time in qualifying, but his black and green Bandolero couldn’t hold off Landon Thrasher on the race’s initial start. Thrasher was leading by the end of Lap 1 after taking the long way around, with Wyatt Coffey settling into third, Brexton Busch fourth, and James Faulkner in fifth. Despite the sluggish start, Johnson stayed on Thrasher’s rear bumper for several laps but as the race went on, slowly slipped back. The race went flag-to-flag, with Thrasher picking up his third Bandits win in as many races in the 2023 Nashville Spring Series. Johnson finished second and Faulkner finished third, getting around Busch and Coffey through the course of the race.

The Outlaws race began with a spirited battle between Killian McMann and Jayden Johnson, who was the winner in Rounds 1 and 2. On a restart, McMann and Johnson once again battled hard wheel-to-wheel but banged doors, sending McMann into the outside wall. He lost control and slid across the noses of Alison Johnson and Danny Mann. On the restart, Mann fought Jayden Johnson hard and snatched the lead away. When the race restarted on Lap 14 following a single car spin, Alison Johnson and Ben Morabito took Jayden Johnson three-wide, sending Jayden back to fourth. A final caution setup a two-lap race to the finish. Mann restarted with Morabito on his tail and got to Mann’s inside down the backstretch. The remained aligned and on the final lap, Jayden Johnson took them three-wide down the backstretch. As the trio traveled through the final corners, Morabito slipped up and doored Mann. At the line, it was Johnson on the inside by a nose over Mann on the outside, with Morabito capturing third.

On the initial start and the first restart on Lap 3 of the Young Lions Round 3 feature, Jackson Denton was successful in putting his Legend Car right in front of Cooper Gaul’s bumper. Laps ticked away but Gaul wasn’t able to find a way around Denton. The yellow came out with 17 laps completed for Evan McKnight and Anastasia Markovic tangling in turn two. Gaul attempted a crossover against Denton on the restart, but couldn’t make it stick. A third caution came out when Chase MacKay spun and backed his car into the outside wall, as well as a Aidan Walker and Kaeden Ballos locking bumper on the frontstretch. The race resumed with seven laps to go after a lengthy cleanup and a sprint following a light rain drizzle. Denton would hold off Gaul on the restart and one more, which was a one-lap shootout. Gaul crossed the line in second and Cole Robie was third.

Dylan Faulkner and Michael Crafton, winners of Rounds 1 and 2, respectively, started on the front for the Round 3 Semi-Pro feature. Crafton tucked his machine behind Faulkner and George Phillips. The red Legend machine of Crafton was looking like he was giving Faulkner everything he had, but a restart was coming. Sam Mazzo spun in turn two with 11 laps completed. A bump and run by Crafton was attempted and he cross Faulkner up, but Faulkner returned the crossover favor and the pair raced in lockstep. Crafton made the outside work and soon completed the pass for the lead over Faulkner. In his attempt to chase down Crafton, Faulkner’s car slipped putting himself in Phillips and Mason Lastra’s sights. Crafton would drive off to victory, claiming the Day 2 Semi-Pro sweep. Faulkner and Lastra took second and third.

On Lap 2 of the Masters Round 3 race, Daryl Mahar and Josh Mullins had a coming together off turn two. The incident sent Mullins head on into the wall and collected Brandin Wrisley, Eugene Drew, and Stephen Carpenter. Only Drew would be able to continue. Kevin Rollins and Brandon McKenzie were the new leaders when the race resumed. A series of other cautions filled the race, eliminating nearly half of original field. Rollins would hold on for victory as McKenzie wasn’t able to mount a successful pass attempt on him. However, McKenzie was able to hold off multiple charges from Kevin Foisy.

The final race of the day was the Round 3 Pro feature, which had an exciting first few laps. On Lap 3, Jensen Jorgensen tagged Ethan Nascimento’s machine, sending Nascimento around. On the restart attempt, it all happened at once. Leader Landen Lewis on the inside tagged the left-rear wheel of second-place Alex McCollum on the outside, which was followed by Landon Rapp bumping McCollum, sending him around. This happened as the field began to accelerate for the restart. Cars scrambled, sending Nick Woodall and Garrett Gumm around, plus puncturing Jorgensen’s radiator ending his day. Everyone kept their original positions. The race was only interrupted once more for a synchronized spin between Donovan Strauss and Tyler Reif. When the race restarted, Lewis fired off well but McCollum crossed him over on the backstretch. The pair raced side-by-side. In the meantime, Rapp too third from Jacob Staten. As McCollum finally completed the pass against Lewis, Rapp took his place in the fight. Lewis would fall to Rapp, giving him trouble a few times before the end of the race, but had no success. McCollum captured his second win of the 2023 Nashville Spring Series, with Rapp in second and Lewis third.

The 2023 Nashville Spring Series continues today on USLegendCars.tv with Round 4 at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway with coverage beginning approximately at 7:00pm ET/6:00pm CT.
