After Monday’s weather delay, Round 1 of the 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout resumed late Tuesday afternoon at Charlotte Motor Speedway to sunny skies and hot track conditions. On Monday night, the Young Lions feature was paused with eight laps completed and fans were treated to a heck of a finish to kick off what was supposed to be a jam-packed evening of Legend Car and Bandolero action.
Picking up where he left off in the Young Lions Division, Ben Morabito came close to pulling off a win. Starting from Lap 9, Morabito returned to leading the field from green. The race was mostly single file, with Morabito leading while Spencer Bradshaw and Landon Thrasher followed closely behind. As the race was closed in on its conclusion, Morabito seemed poised to finish what he started, until the final lap. Morabito was going into Turn 3 when Bradshaw made a last-second pass attempt. Using the “bump and run” technique, Bradshaw moved Morabito out of the way, stealing the lead and the victory. Morabito finished second and Thrasher, who won the Round 1 Outlaws Feature the night before, finished third.
Chase Burgeson made an amazing comeback in the first round of the VP Racing Fuels Semi-Pro Feature. When the race began, Burgeson jumped out to an early lead, with a couple of car lengths on the rest of the field. Burgeson continued to hold the lead with Issac Kitzmiller, Dominic Chisholm, and Dylan Faulkner slowly closing the gap with nine laps completed. Coming off the restart during Lap 10, Kitzmiller and Chisholm took the inside and knocked Burgeson out of the lead. Kitzmiller was able to hold the lead until Lap 11, where Burgeson recaptured the lead, and even though another caution flag came out during Lap 12, Burgeson was able to power through and cement his comeback, his first career win at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Living up to their title, the first round of the Dilling Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical Pro Division was competitive throughout the 26-car field. Featuring NASCAR Cup Series regulars Bubba Wallace and Shane van Gisbergen, and 2024 Indianapolis 500 pole winner Scott McLaughlin, the Pro Division started with Daniel Wilk taking the lead with Jake Bollman right behind. Wilk continued to lead until a caution flag restacked the field. After the restart, Bollman took control, while side-by-side battles were happening behind him, including London McKenzie, Jensen Jorgensen and Gisbergen all battling for third place. They went three wide at a point until McKenzie bumped into Gisbergen, bringing out the caution flag.
Bollman later lost the lead to Wilk, who was set for victory until a caution with only one lap to go. Wilk led Keelan Harvick and Bollman to the restart and entering Turn 1, Bollman entered third and exited Turn 2 with the lead. Wilk gave it one last ditch effort to get to Bollman’s bumper, but as they passed under the checkered flag, Bollman won by just over half a car length.
After making his return to Legend Car racing in February, Kyle Busch climbed back into his no. 51 Legend Car in the Masters Division joining son Brexton for taste of competition at the Cook Out Summer Shootout. Like Brexton the night before, Kyle dominated the opening Masters Division Feature at America’s Home for Racing. Busch captured the lead in the early laps, holding the lead with little resistance from the rest of the field. 2025 INEX Winter Nationals Masters Division Champion, Brandin Wrisley, was a couple of car lengths behind him, and even though the race was slightly caution-filled, Wrisley was unable to find a way to Busch.
Round 2 of the Cook Out Summer Shootout was scheduled to take place Tuesday night, but like Monday, Mother Nature stepped in the way, postponing Round 2 activities after only completing Beginner Bandolero and Bandits qualifying sessions.
Round 2 is now scheduled for Monday, June 16 and will resume at 5pm ET, starting with Outlaws Qualifying. Grandstands will open at 5pm ET. The third round of Summer Shootout will be on Tuesday, June 17. For scheduling details for Rounds 2 and 3 are on INEXSeries.com.
