As the sun set, the dirt flew in Minot, North Dakota for Friday’s competition for the 2025 Legend Car Dirt Nationals at Nodak Speedway. Cars hit the track to start off the day with ProFABrication Qualifying, then rolled into heat races and capped the night off with the main event, the Bassett Fastest Qualifier Challenge.

In Heat 2 of the Young Lions, Colton Miller and Jeff Stovall were side by side through Turn 2, Miller was able to take the lead on the backstretch. Noah Lewis and Mason Lemar battled for third and with 7 laps to go, Lewis was able to take it in Turn 3.  With one lap to go, Lewis tried to get to the inside of Stovall to take second in Turn 3, but was unable to complete the pass.  Miller took the checkered flag, Stovall second, and Lewis third. Heat 1 of Young Lions had Colton Brock taking the green flag to start things off.  Throughout the eight-lap race, there was a lot of side-by-side racing action.  After technical inspection, Talyn Neuman was awarded the win.

The ProFABraction Fastest Qualifier of the night, Noah Madler, led the first of three Semi-Pro heat races to green, as the fastest qualifier for the division, and got a great start to pull away from the rest of the field. Chance Gilbert went up the track in Turn 4 and opened the door for Quade Schoonover to get side by side with him on Lap 2.  Coming out of Turn 4 with six to go, Schoonover was able to secure the second position.  With clean racing the rest of the way, Madler finished first, Schoonover second and Gilbert third.

Ty Olson took the green flag in Heat 2 of the Semi-Pro division.  Hayden Schmuhl went to the inside and was able to take second away from Kody Machart.  With five to go, Schmuhl went up the track which allowed Machart to get to the side of him.  Machart was unable to make the pass and eventually fell back into line as they came out of Turn 4.  Heat 2 finished with Olson first, Schmuhl second and Machart third.

The final heat of Semi Pro started with a battle for the lead between Cody Jawaski and Gage Madler. As they went into Turn 2, Jawaski took the lead and Madler fell into second. Gus Jensen and Dayton Olheiser battled for the third position going into Turn 1, Jensen took the position as they came out of Turn 2. After back-and-forth racing, Olheiser gave Jensen a bump in the back as they entered Turn 2 with 4 laps to go, which allowed him to take the third position. Madler won the heat, Jawaski came in second and Jensen third.

Donavin Wiest, the Masters ProFABrication Fastest Qualifier and Glenn Mitchell took the green flag side by side to start the first heat in the Masters Division.  As they entered Turn 3 Mitchell took the lead, however Wiest took it back the next lap.  Sean Johnson and Scott Richardson battled the first half of the race for the third spot, with Johnson coming up with it as they came out of Turn 4. Wiest went on to win the heat, Mitchell finished second and Johnson third.

The second heat of the Masters stayed quiet as the final position standings reflected their starting positions. Corey Pope led the field from start to finish, with Michael King and Duston Hagen following in second and third respectively.  Though the results may not reflect it, there were battles for position, nothing seemed to shake out. Pope won the heat, King finished second and Hagen finished third.

As the Pro Division ProFABrication Fastest Qualifier, Tanner Jones led the field to the start of Heat 1 and took the lead right away. Tye Wilke and Steven Partin battled side by side for the second spot, with Wilke able to take it as they came out of Turn 2 on the second lap. With five laps to go, Wilke was able to get to Jones and battle him for the lead, but was unable to successfully maneuver around him.  Jones took the win, Wilke finished second and Partin third.

The last heat race of the night brought a hard battle for the lead between Dauntae Martin and Preston Martin throughout it. At times, Dauntae was able to control the lead and others Preston was. The two made it a battle all the way down to Lap 5, where Daunte was able to control the lead. However, he did not run away with it, as Preston attempted to get to the inside and take the lead on the last lap.  Ultimately Dauntae came up victorious, Preston finished second and Joshua Wiest rounded out the top three.

The Bassett Fastest Qualifier Challenge picked up right where heat racing ended. Semi-Pro driver Ty Olson and Pro driver Preston Martin, who were no strangers racing against each other throughout the season, led the field to green. As they entered Turn 2, Martin was able to take the lead on Lap 2.  Noah Madler battled Olson for the second position.  Olson was able to maintain control of second, after a lap battle. With 20 laps to go, the top eight cars found themselves single file, though it did not last long.

On Lap 6, Olson was able to find the inside of Martin a couple different times, but was unable to take the top spot away from him. While things were a bit quiet with the front three cars, Kody Machart and Chance Gilbert battled for the fourth position.  Machart was able to keep the spot on Lap 9. Martin and Olson stuck with one another and created a gap between them and the rest of the field by Lap 12.  Noah Madler found himself on an island in third, as he drove around the track on his own with another gap between himself and Machart and Gilbert.

Olson went to the low side of Martin in Turn 3 to try and grab the top spot and eventually did as they went through Turn 2 with nine to go. Even after the pass, Olson and Martin stuck with one another. Martin was able to get the side of Olson frequently in the closing laps, he just was not able to complete the pass when it counted most. Olson took the checkered flag, claiming the victory amongst the fastest qualifiers at Dirt Nationals. Martin came in a close second and Madler finished third. Colton Miller was the highest finishing Young Lions driver, and Duston Hagen earned the title as the highest finishing Masters Division driver.

Championship Saturday, October 11, kicks off at approximately 6pm CT/4pm PT on U.S. Legend Cars TV from Nodak Speedway. Young Lions will be the first to the green flag, followed by the Semi-Pros, Masters, and concluding with the Pros.
