The second INEX Championship National takes place this weekend at Virginia’s Dominion Raceway. The 29th INEX Road Course World Finals, September 26-28, will be the second time that Dominion has hosted the Legend Car road course national championship event. The first was in 2016, where Emil Persson (SWE: Pro), Mathias Herten (FIN: Semi-Pro), Chris Lindholm (NLD: Masters), and Eddie Fatscher (USA: Young Lions) were victorious.
In 2024, the 28th edition was also in the Commonwealth of Virginia, but at VIRginia International Raceway. Carter McMurray stamped his name into INEX and Legend Car history by taking on the Young Lions feature championship victory, keeping Ben Morabito and Neal Dulin in the rearview mirror around the 1.1-mile circuit. Italy’s Michele Locatelli became the first international driver to win the Masters Division championship feature since Finland’s Lauri Riekkola won in 2017, when the event was held at the Botniaring Racing Circuit in Finland.
Dean Lambros won a chaotic Semi-Pro championship feature in 2024 over Isaac Kitzmiller and Cole Robie. While in the Pro Division, Landen Lewis captured his fourth straight Road Course World Finals feature victory, and his third straight in the Pros.
While he isn’t running for a national championship in 2025, Lewis will race to extend his record to five-straight Road Course World Finals victories. His first in 2021 was in the Semi-Pro Division at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In 2022, Lewis jumped to the Pro Division, winning at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and repeated in 2023. In 2024, he was a perfect 11 for 11 in road course victories, but unfortunately missed out on the national championship, due to not have the required 12 starts.
If Lewis wins, he will be the first driver to win four-straight Road Course World Finals features in a single division, and extend his overall record to five, which no other driver has more than three. While Lewis isn’t going for the national championship, three drivers are separated by six points at the top of the standings.
Devin O’Connell, the 2015 Semi-Pro Road Course World Finals and INEX Semi-Pro Road Course National Champion, owns 1094 points. Three points behind him is Caleb Heady and six points behind is Jase Mongeon. For Mongeon, he looks to defend his 2024 INEX Pro Road Course National title and make it his third straight road course national championship, as he won the 2023 INEX Semi-Pro Road Course National Championship. A victory in the championship feature or the national championship would both be firsts for Heady.
Down in the Young Lions Division, Ben Morabito has won three road course titles so far in 2025 and looks to complete the season with a Young Lions championship feature victory Sunday at Dominion. After winning the 2024 INEX Young Lions Road Course National Championship, he started the season with a championship at Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s Silver State Road Course Series, and followed it up with a Winter Heat championship in March. Then over the course of the summer, he raced all three weekends at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to win the Granite State Legends Cars Young Lions championship.
Morabito will arrive at Dominion on Friday with a perfect 1100-point tally, but only has a 21-point cushion back to Finn Buckley.
Five drivers are within 24 points of each other for the top spot in the Semi-Pro Division, including Nick Morabito and Neal Dulin, who are tied for the points lead with 1100 points each. Nick, the elder brother to Ben, won this year’s Silver State Road Course Series title, and Dulin won the Winter Heat championship between Charlotte Motor Speedway and Dominion Raceway.
Behind them in points is Trent Dillard who trails by only 18 points, with Reilly O’Connell back by 21 and Devin Kelly behind 24. O’Connell was this year’s Granite State Legends Cars champion.
In the Masters Division, Shaun Buffington leads the way with a perfect 1100-point season entering Road Course World Finals. He took the 2024 season off, but has positioned himself to chase an eighth INEX Road Course National Championship, and sixth overall in the Masters Division. He previously won 2013 and 2015 Pro Division National titles.
Sitting 15 points behind Buffington is Zeke Hanger, who has competed in 30 road course events this season, taking home victories at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Hallett Motor Racing Circuit.
The 2025 INEX Road Course World Finals begins on Friday, September 26, with a full-day of practice. On Saturday, ProFABrication Qualifying will start the competitive portion of the event, followed by heat racing. Championship Sunday will feature the four championship races on Dominion’s 2-mile road course, along with Bandoleros on the short three-quarter-mile circuit.
International presence will come from Austraila, England, and Finland amongst five drivers, including the recently crowned UK Legend Cars Champion, Tyler Read.
Coverage of Saturday’s competition will begin at 2pm ET/11am PT on US Legend Cars TV, and again on Sunday beginning at approximately 1:30pm ET/10:30am PT on US Legend Cars TV.
Drivers can still register and purchase the required tires for the event and non-driver passes are still available for purchase.
