The 2023 Nashville Spring Series presented by zMAX at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday was an eventful one that kept the wreckers busy. Round 4 was the only slate of races for the day, and of the seven feature races, three were won by new faces in victory circle in this year’s series.

The Young Lions B Main kicked the night off with several cautions for spins and contact. Austin Bloodworth started on the front row, but was involved in a collision with Anastasia Markovic. He would go to the rear and just came up short of transferring to the A Main. Caleb Johnson proved victorious, followed by Aidan Walker, Chase MacKay, and Kaeden Ballos.

Sean McElearney led early in the Semi-Pro B Main after starting second beside Preston Wrisley. Wrisley would finish fourth, but not without having to hold off Cameron White to transfer. McElearney won, followed by Oliver Dibble in second and Colton Noble in third.

The first lap of the Beginner Bandolero Round 4 feature could only be described as hectic. Several cars spun, including the pole sitter Gerald White III. When the race resumed, it was Emily Billings at the point. As she traveled through turn three, Allee Johnson bumped her and the pair slid up and into the wall, ending Billings’ day. Case James inherited the lead and didn’t loose it. White did make his way through the field with assistance from a few cautions, but ran out of laps to catch James. It was James’ second ever Bandolero start!

Colt Johnson wanted the Bandits Round 4 win bad, and demonstrated it by shutting the door on Landon Thrasher on the opening corners. Thrasher, the winner of the first three Bandits races, had other plans. He had been catching Johnson as each lap passed, but a bobble by Johnson off turn four on Lap 5, brought Thrasher to his inside. Thrasher surged into the corner, but Johnson crossed him up. As Thrasher looked to play the crossover card, a caution was displayed for a spin in turn one. The restart was not favorable to Johnson as he fell back to fourth as Jack Smith and Wyatt Coffey passed him. Thrasher set sail and would survive the following cautions and restarts to win his fourth Bandits race of the week. Johnson would make it back up to second and Smith third. Smith led off turn four but contact with Johnson sent Smith around and he crossed the finish line backwards.

Ben Morabito and Killian McMann were both searching for their first wins of the week, and attempting to break Jayden Johnson’s hold on the Outlaws division. The started the race door-to-door and mixed it up with Johnson before Morabito settled in as the leader, and McMann into second. A multi-car crash off the exit of turn four began when Emma Britt spun. Those involved were Eli Russell, Mitchell Flater, Kristopher Conrad and Alex Pate. When the race restarted, Morabito kept control of his lead, but off turn four on the restart lap with 18 to go, another wreck occurred. Triggered by Killian McMann and Jayden Johnson spinning nearly in sync, Lincoln Johnson had no where to go and slammed the outside wall. Lily Impellizzeri had no where to go and slammed into the right side of Lincoln’s wounded Bandolero. Thankfully, both drivers walked away from the crash. McMann and Jayden would both go to the rear but would make their way back to the front to finish second and third, respectively, with Morabito grabbing the Round 4 Outlaws victory.

Turn two of the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway quarter-mile proved to be difficult for the Young Lions field to negotiate. Two separate incidents occurred, with 12 of the 24 starters being involved in some way. Pole sitter Ayrton Brockhouse and Ayden Christensen came together halfway down the backstretch and came to a stop in turn three, but behind them was mayhem. The big one started when Vito Cancilla touched Caden Tufts left-rear tire, sending Tufts around. Others behind them had no time to react and if they did, not where to go. Chase MacKay, Abi Johnson, Max Reaves, Dawson Noble, Aidan Walker, Hunter Jordan, Kaeden Ballos, and Aiden King were all collected with many of them stopping together in one big mess of Legend Cars. All drivers walked away. Isaac Kitzmiller would inherit the race lead and held that position when the green flag waved. Cole Robie moved into second around Garrett Irwin. Soon, Robie was around Kitzmiller for the lead and Jackson Denton had made his way to third and made quick work of Kitzmiller. A caution reset the field for Neal Dulin who had come to a stop in turn two. Denton pushed Robie to the lead on the restart and kept Robie’s rearview mirror full of his car. Irwin spun with assistance from Robie with three laps to go. They both went to the back. Cooper Gaul was now second and Dulin had fought his way back up to the top three. Neither Gaul or Dulin were able to challenge Denton for the win, giving Denton his third Young Lions win of the week. Dulin passed Gaul on the final lap for second.

Michael Crafton captured his third Semi-Pro checkered flag of the 2023 Nashville Spring Series on Friday; a race that was shortened from 25 laps to 20, due to time restraints. The race was scattered with cautions, none more damaging then the turn two wreck that sent both Jesse Martinez and George Phillips onto their left side wheels as their cars climbed over Owen Mahar’s car after Mahar bumped Dylan Faulkner who spun, and also collected Lucas Vera. The battle was primarily for second, which Parker Traves defended over third-place finisher Sam Mazzo.

The Masters race was also shortened from 25 to 20 laps. With fours laps completed, Kevin Rollins led Kevin Foisy and Wayne Grubb as Greg Gresham and Eugene Drew spun in turn four. On the restart, Bruce Silver and Jeremy Lange crashed in turn three, ending Silver’s day. On the second attempt to get the race going with four laps completed, turn two struck again. Foisy climbed the side of Grubb’s Legend Car sending the pair up the track. The field reacted but not all avoided. Paul Jones, Brandin Wrisley, Greg Erhardt, Skip McCord, Jeremy Lange, Stephen carpenter, and Gresham were all caught up in the pileup and all walked away. Rollins was easily in control of the race, with Daryl Mahar unable to hang with him long. Phil Jones spun with three to go and the field was warned that the next flag would end the race. With two laps to go, Rollins was in a comfortable lead when Gresham climbed the rear wheel of Ronnie Wehunt’s sedan. The race was called after 18 laps with Rollins as the winner, Mahar second, and Lonnie Hochstetler in third.

The final race of the night, the Pro division’s Round 4 feature, was arguably the cleanest of the night. The 20-lap race was not caution free, but didn’t have any major wrecks. Only spins brought the caution out. Alex McCollum, winner of Rounds 1 and 3, led early, but local driver Oliver Cordell eventually took the lead from McCollum. The top five changed positions throughout the event, eventually leading Cordell to victory, McCollum to a second-place finish and Jensen Jorgensen finishing third.

The 2023 Nashville Spring Series continues today on USLegendCars.tv with Rounds 5 and 6 at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway with coverage beginning approximately at 2:00pm ET/1:00pm CT for Round 5 and 6pm ET/5:00pm CT.
