Rule Specifications:

Legends Car seats must be a factory manufactured, metal or carbon fiber (SFI 39.2 or SFI 39.1), automotive racing seat, (Butler, Richardson, LaJoie, etc.). Even though there are seats on the market that have holes punched in them for lightening purposes, INEX does not allow a competitor to drill holes (for lightening purposes) in a seat that did not come from the factory with these holes. Seats that are manufactured with these “lightening” holes are OK as long as the seat manufacture is the one that “lightened” the seat. Seats may not be bolted directly to the floor pan. If the seat needs to be raised, the inspector will determine if the bracket used to raise the seat is safe (steel brackets only, no aluminum). If the seat needs to be moved foreword and longer bolts and spacers are used (to fill the gap between the seat back and the original mounting point), there must be a minimum 1” steel washer between the spacer and the back of the seat. Note: there are purpose built brackets (steel & aluminum) to fill this gap when racing seats need to be moved forward, these are OK to. When mounting the seat, the bolts used must be a minimum grade 5 bolt. Bolts with a round head (that are not allen head bolts) are carriage bolts and are not allowed to be used for seat mounting.

Penalties for Violation of this Rule:

If an inspector finds a seat that has holes drilled in it for lightening purposes (not done by the seat manufacture), the inspector will confiscate the seat and disqualify the driver.

If the mounting of the seat is unsafe or does not meet the specifications listed above, the inspector will require the driver to repair the situation before he/she goes onto the racetrack.
